The European Regulators Group ( ERG ) for electronic communications networks and services held its annual meeting in Rome on 5 December 2007 with the regulations of the MEDA region.
The purpose of this meeting was to provide assistance and consultations that boost the ICT market in the Mediterranean region, and to act as an interface between the Mediterranean regulators and the ( ERG ).
Dr. Amr Badawi, the Executive President of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) headed the Egyptian delegation that participated in this meeting.
The meeting was followed by the meeting of the new approaches to telecommunications policies ( NATP II ) on 6 Dec. 2007 , The participants discussed the achievements of the previous period and the means of sustaining them. The NATP is one of the ambitious and effective programs that aim to develop telecom policies in the Mediterranean countries, trying to keep abreast of all advancements and changes and bringing the countries together.
The schedule comprised a number of significant issues including:
- A review of the NATP II and completion of the third phase thereof thanks to the successes it achieved.
- The bases and pivots of the regulators’ work.
- The establishment of a Network comprising the Euro-Mediterranean regulators.
