Egypt’s telecom market, one of the largest in Africa and the Arab World, is characterized by fierce competition in the mobile and broadband sectors and by a fledgling and innovative digital sector which has pioneered business models for distributing digital content.
As a consequence, mobile and fixed penetration is comfortably ahead of the African and some Arab countries average In the last few years, telecom industry in Egypt has undergone a number of significant changes. The industry has registered high growth rates both in terms of revenues and subscribers in the mobile and internet markets, whereas the fixed line segment experienced a slower growth rate.
NTRA is responsible for creating an enabling environment for competition among operators in the industry as well as ensuring the provision of qualitative and efficient telecom services throughout the country.
Hence, in its capacity as the Egyptian regulator, NTRA promotes and facilitates a competitive information and communication technologies environment to advance the knowledge society and economic diversification through innovative and fair regulation.
NTRA has been taking the lead in areas that drive the advancement of the communications industry, as, pursuant to the Telecom Regulation Law no. 10/2003.
