Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, Executive President of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA), held a number of bilateral meetings with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) leaders on the sidelines of World Radiocommunication Conference (ITUWRC), held currently in Dubai, UAE, from November 20 to December 15, 2023, where he met Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, ITU Secretary-General, Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), and Mr. Mario Maniewicz, Director of ITU’s Radiocommunication Bureau (BR).

Moreover, the Egyptian experience to provide and disseminate ICT services through the Presidential Initiative, “Haya Karima,” was explored. “Hayah Karima” actually aims to integrate all society segments into the State’s different projects and programs through reinforcing and providing digital services at disconnected areas, as well as providing information infrastructure being an indigenous right for all citizens, side by side with all other basic utilities of life. It also serves 58 million citizens, mostly from rural areas. Women empowering topics within ICT scope were also tackled during meetings.

WRC is deemed one the most significant international events organized by ITU that features the participation of almost all presidents of regulatory authorities around the world and key stakeholders managing radio spectrum from both government and industry sides. In fact, entities partaking in WRC will review and update Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the use of spectrum.
