The Executive President of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA), Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, headed the preparatory meeting of the Global Symposium for Regulators (ITUGSR-23), attended by more than 50 presidents of regulatory authorities worldwide. The preparatory meeting took place on the sidelines of ITUGSR-23 held in Sharm El-Sheikh from June 5-8, 2023 with more than 700 regulators and policy-makers from more than 100 countries taking part to explore the regulatory as well as governing policies of communication and information technology.
During the session, Eng. Hossam El-Gamal projected Egypt’s experience in cooperative digital regulation and how it was successfully utilized as a tool to achieve an integrated digital economy and create an efficient regulatory environment that provides high-quality services. He also projected the guidelines on the best practices that would promote the ideal regulatory and economic status for an inclusive sustainable digital future.
It’s worth noting that such guidelines were developed through the joint international efforts exerted by ITUGSR-23 member states, under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which took about one year. At the end of session, the guidelines were endorsed by the presidents of the regulatory authorities participating in ITUGSR-23, confirming their significance to be used by countries to achieve their goals as well as the required levels of harmony among the regulatory authorities in these countries.
